MILITZER & MÜNCH INCREASES MAGHREB TRAFFICS

St. Gallen, 18 September 2019. The Militzer & Münch Group significantly expands transports between Germany and the Maghreb states. The first two quarters 2019 saw an increase in volumes by roughly 30 percent, with revenue even going up by about 40 percent, compared to the first two quarters 2018. Strong customer demand for textile transports to Tunisia and Morocco keeps boosting business.

Good order situation, bigger shipment volumes, an increase in turnover: apart from transports for the electronics, automotive and pharmaceutical sectors, Militzer & Münch concentrates more and more on the textile industry’s growing demand for imports and exports along the Maghreb trade lane.

“The Maghreb states are one of our core markets”, says Thomas Winter, Managing Director M&M Militzer & Münch GmbH. “We owe our intensive activities along this trade lane, among others, to the good trade relations between Germany, France and the Maghreb as well as to economic growth particularly in Morocco. In the past few months, especially our exports to Morocco and Tunisia as well as imports from Tunisia kept increasing.”

Steady growth in Tunisia and Morocco
The Militzer & Münch branch at Eichenzell in East Hesse is the German hub for these traffics. “This is where our Maghreb experts handle operations”, says Thomas Winter. “We organize the transport, draw up the export documents for our customers, and in cooperation with the Bad Reichenhall branch, we do the import customs clearance.” For the trade lane, Militzer & Münch uses mostly truck transportation, but also offers air and sea freight solutions.

The Militzer & Münch country organizations in Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, France and Germany cooperate closely on these transports. Not only is there the experienced team at Eichenzell; the staff in Morocco has long-standing expertise and its own good infrastructure: in Tangiers, the company operates its own customs terminal and disposes of huge storage areas. “The warehousing capacities and the fast clearance of the goods are a big advantage for our customers”, Thomas Winter says. “Moreover, our tradeline managers regularly travel to Tunisia and Morocco to organize current projects with the local colleagues.”

The teams at the Eichenzell branch, in Tunisia, France and Morocco are in contact on a daily basis and ensure smooth and fast communication. For transports between Europe and Africa, fast reactivity and flexibility are indispensable. At this time, the team is further extending the Maghreb trade lane, specifically the traffics from and to Algeria.

MILITZER & MÜNCH INVESTS IN NEW LOCATIONS

The Militzer & Münch Group continues expanding capacities. Last year alone, the Group took into operation more than 19,000 square meters of new distribution centers and office space.

St. Gallen, 10 April 2019. The Militzer & Münch Group continues expanding capacities. Last year alone, the Group took into operation more than 19,000 square meters of new distribution centers and office space. Currently, a new warehouse is under construction in Bulgaria; in France, the Paris branch is preparing to move to a new logistics terminal that offers 60 percent more space. With its clear positioning and a successful development along the New Silk Road, Militzer & Münch can expand its activities and services.

The high demand for logistics space and services contributes substantially to the growth of the Militzer & Münch Group in many European countries. The forwarder benefits from this good development to expand its international portfolio and to continue growing especially in niche markets. “It is important that we adapt to the changing market and position ourselves clearly”, says Guillaume de Laage de Meux, Member of the Board of Directors of M&M Militzer & Münch International Holding AG. “We aim to grow with the change and to further increase our flexibility. This also includes taking into consideration regional features, and positioning the Group sustainably in niche markets as well as in established markets.”

In Paris, Militzer & Münch is currently making final preparations for the move – Militzer & Münch France relocates in July 2019, as the current warehouse has become too small. With the new logistics terminal, the previous warehouse area was increased by 60 percent and now covers 9,000 square meters. The terminal covers a total of 20,000 square meters, including office space and 25 loading doors. “With the move, the Militzer & Münch Paris branch can assure the smooth handling of all traffics and also has space available for new customer business”, Guillaume de Laage de Meux says. “The additional capacities are to further boost the growth of Militzer & Münch France over the next years.”

Growth in Southern and Eastern Europe
Militzer & Münch is substantially expanding business also in Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey and Belarus. In Bulgaria’s capital Sofia, construction began this February on a new logistics facility covering roughly 2,600 square meters. State-of-the-art technology ensures that the building offers much higher capacities for cross docking activities. The extension has become necessary to meet the rising demand for LTL/groupage transports as well as the growing requirements of customers and partners. Plans are that starting in autumn 2019, Militzer & Münch Bulgaria will offer cross docking, interim storage and faster customizing and distribution at the new location.

In late 2018, Militzer & Münch Greece moved to a new distribution center near Athens, combining four regional warehouses in an approximately 13,600 square meter area. With the new, sustainable facility, the Militzer & Münch team can now focus more on value added services such as labeling, picking and packing, warehousing and customs management.

In Turkey, Militzer & Münch moved to a new office and rented a new warehouse last autumn. On a 5,700 square meter area in Istanbul near Muratbey customs office, the company offers a warehouse for trans-shipping and a wide range of logistics services. Most recently, Militzer & Münch Turkey registered growing demand for intermodal transports. The new location is situated at a major traffic hub for overland transports between Europe and Asia.

In Belarus, there is steady business growth, too. “We are working on further expanding our logistics services along the Silk Road. Belarus is a major hub between Asia and Europe”, says Guillaume de Laage de Meux. “In Belarus, we handle transport orders with our own truck fleet. We also offer air and sea transports, customs clearance and hazardous goods and heavy lift transports.” In Minsk, the country’s capital, Militzer & Münch started construction on a new 2,000 square meter logistics terminal, mainly for express goods handling.

St. Gallen, 1 October 2019. The Militzer & Münch Group has founded a joint venture with Serbian logistics company Invictus System Transport & Logistics D.O.O. With this step, Militzer & Münch is further expanding its network in the Balkans. Both partners are planning to turn the joint venture into a leading forwarder in Serbia within the next two years.

Militzer & Münch and Invictus, a family-owned enterprise, registered the joint venture as M&M Militzer & Münch Transport & Logistics D.O.O. on 25 September. Managing Director of the joint venture is Filip Simovic. Until now, he headed the transport operations at Invictus, together with Dragan Simovic, a former Country Executive of a renowned international logistics corporation. On the part of Militzer & Münch, Sacho Todorov, Regional Managing Director South East Europe, is in charge of the joint venture.

Serbia as a bridge to EU

“With this joint venture, we add to our network a country that optimally complements our locations in the South East Europe Region”, says Sacho Todorov. “Serbia is a bridge to EU, and is also of major geo-strategic importance in terms of the New Silk Road. As many German companies have production plants in Serbia, the joint venture is especially promising for our German country unit.”

The existing Militzer & Münch locations in the Balkans so far are Greece, Bulgaria and Romania. These Militzer & Münch country units already offer a wide range of logistics services.

“In Serbia, we will first of all focus on road transports”, says Filip Simovic. “Our services will comprise mainly export, import and customs clearance. In the near future, we are going to expand our portfolio, adding airfreight and sea freight, warehousing, intermodal traffics and project transports. Our objective is to develop the joint start-up within the next two years to become a leading forwarding company in Serbia. Plans are to strengthen our position in Serbia with further investments.”
